On 12 November 2025, we organised the symposium 200 Years of Benzene at the Carlos Santamaría Centre, UPV/EHU, in Donostia–San Sebastián.
Organised and chaired by Prof. Aurelio Mateo-Alonso (POLYMAT–UPV/EHU–Ikerbasque), the event was open to the entire campus community.
Amaia Zurutuza (Graphenea) delivered the plenary lecture From Benzene to Graphene, highlighting several aspects of FantastiCOF and providing an opportunity to communicate the project’s research to a broader university audience.
The programme also featured plenary lectures by Nazario Martín, Fernando Cossío and Martina Corso. The event was covered in POLYMAT’s news report and in the notice “200 años del benceno en San Sebastián” in Anales de Química of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry RSEQ, which reported participation by researchers and students.
